Tarik Berber

Profile

Painter and Etcher

Born in Banja Luka (Bosnia and Hercegovina) in 1980, Tarik Berber studied in Florence at Accademia di Belle Arti with prof. Adriano Bimbi. After couple of years in Berlin and seven years in London he moves to Milan where he currently lives and works.

As a child due to the Yugoslavian War, he left his own country and settled with his family in Bolzano, Italy. Even before moving to Florence to continue his academic studies, while still very young, he had already received recognition and exemplary acknowledgements of esteem.

He started working with the prestigious Florentine art gallery Poggiali e Forconi, which took him to all major Italian art fairs.

In 2004 he was the youngest artist to be invited to exhibit at the inauguration of MACI (Museum of Contemporary Art of Isernia), in the same year he took part in the Second InTranSito Biennial, in Sassoferrato at the 55th Rassegna Internazionale d’Arte G. B. Salvi Aperture, curated by Mauro Corradini, and then, by Alessandro Riva in Catania in the Le Ciminiere space, and at the 2nd Rassegna Internazionale d’Arte Città di Bozzolo Don Primo Mazzolari, where he won the first acquisition prize. In May 2006, he had his first solo exhibition at the eighteenth-century residence of Villa Pisani, the Museo Nazionale of Strà in the Province of Venice.

In 2007 he moved to Berlin, but returned to Italy after a year and a half. From 2011 to 2018 he lived in London where he started working on animations. His works attracted the attention of BBC, InsideArt and Vimeo Staff Picks with more than 60,000 views.

In the summer of 2015 he is invited for a series of four solo exhibitions in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovenia: in Maribor at the ARMAMAXA Gallery, at the City Gallery in Bihac, National Gallery in Sarajevo and the G&M Gallery in Tuzla. During this period he gives the project of a children's book to the orphanage in Kulen Vakuf (BiH), which prints and distributes it.

Towards the end of 2015 he began working with the prestigious Albemarle Gallery in London (Mayfair). During this period he met Edward Lucie-Smith, a famous English art historian and critic, who interviewed him and wrote a text about him for the catalogue of the exhibition at Art Moor House, a skyscraper built by the archistar Lord Norman Foster, in the City of London.

In 2016 he was a finalist in the “Ibero-American Art Award Exhibition” at the Brazilian Embassy, London.

In 2017, he was invited to create an 80m2 installation for the Piazza dei Tre Re as part of the “Estate Fiorentina”.

The same year he exhibited his solo show TOXIC CADMIUM at Aria Art Gallery in Florence. The same gallery exhibited his works at ‘CI’ - Contemporary Istanbul Art Fair 2017.

In 2018, he began a collaboration with the VSArte Gallery in Milan (Brera) and in July of the same year he opened his solo exhibition "Windsor Beauties" at Aria Art Gallery in Istanbul.

In January 2020, the Fondazione Maimeri hosted the retrospective “Seven Sisters” curated by Andrea Dusio in collaboration with Arte.it.

Upon his return to Milan, after the lockdown, he met Italian rapper Marracash, who commissioned him to make the hand-drawn music video (2700 drawings) “Dubbi”, for Universal Musical . The project will be presented at ASSAB One in Milan by Irina Zucca Alessandrelli, curator of the Ramo Collection. In addition to numerous prestigious media mentions, the 1,900,000 online views, the video was selected as a finalist for the Italian Music Video Award.

In spring 2021, he had a retrospective with more than 60 works at the National Museum Knezeva Palaća in Zadar, Croatia.

His latest project is a book of engravings “Sacra Illusione” printed at the Albicocco Art Printworks in Udine in 6 copies, with text by Matteo Nucci. The book was produced for the car manufacturer Lamborghini and is now at the Automobili Lamborghini Museum in Sant'Agata Bolognese. This was followed by a solo exhibition of engravings at La Stamperia d'Arte Albicocco in Udine 2024.

In May 2025, he finished the new animation “LINT” for Princeton (USA) creative writing professor Aleksandar Hemon. And in the same year, he began a collaboration with the Salamon Fine Art gallery in Milan.
